What was begun as an online journal of the books I read evolved...or maybe it devolved...to also feature behind the scenes goings-on at All About Romance from my perspective (mostly based on my personal feelings - okay, it's a personal pity party); topics I've gone over ad nauseum in commentary at AAR, including the nature of reviews and online behavior; and my non-cyber life (including family and items in pop culture that capture my interest, which is just about everything).

Please do not violate my trust. I restricted certain AAR-related and personal entries for a reason...to keep them as private as possible. Now that my blog is read-only, to access restricted entries you must already have a password; if you do, hold onto it so that you can continue to read restricted entries.

This blog is not part of All About Romance. I ask that you keep comments or questions regarding restricted blog content off of AAR.

Below you'll find the blogs I visit, broken out in my own odd little system of categories.

Tuesday, 27 February 2007 6:16 P GMT-05
This morning I decided to provide more "full" results in our annual reader poll , and did so in a series of four posts on our ATBF Message Board. I thought I'd combine them all here, more or less to have them in perpetuity...and i

My ballot

Monday, 26 February 2007 4:42 P GMT-05
Now that the results in AAR's 11th annual reader poll are online, I didn't quite know where to post my ballot. Should I post it on the results page...on the ATBF Message Board...or here? In the end I decided that there's quite enoug

Although we were supposed to return from our school visit Sunday night, because we wouldn't have had enough one-on-one time with our daughter, we changed our flights and left on Monday. This is the first time in my life I've ever had to

Thursday, 15 February 2007 4:20 P GMT-05
I'm trying not to panic, really I am, but we're flying to New England tomorrow morning to visit our daughter, and it's cold, damn it! I've lived in Texas now for more than half my life, but find winters here - which most people from t

Yes, voting is that close in our annual reader poll ! So close, in fact, that in three categories the lead has changed at least once already this week.  Which means that in these categories the number of votes separating the winner and an honora

Is Our Mission No Longer Clear?

Monday, 12 February 2007 8:01 P GMT-05
As a result of some recent threads on some of our message boards, I'm beginning to wonder whether or not AAR's mission and philosophy remains clear. The discussion regarding the lack of voting in our "Worst" category earlier i

Spin and Scooter Libby

Sunday, 11 February 2007 3:59 P GMT-05
Just a quick question...why is it that whenever the Scooter Libby trial is discussed, conservative pundits emphasize that only people "in the beltway" are interested? How did the Republican PTB decide that this was the best way to spi

Updating Lucy Monroe

Sunday, 11 February 2007 2:44 P GMT-05
Yesterday I updated the "What We're Reading" feature for AAR After Hours and noticed that Linda's choice was Come Up and See Me Sometime, a Lucy Monroe book I'd enjoyed in 2005. By today she'd almost finished with it, so I

This 'N' That

Saturday, 10 February 2007 1:55 P GMT-05
So I heard from one of the guys at Astonish Entertainment the other day...they'd followed my advice, and as a result, arranged to have David Martin play two sets at RT's annual conference. I hope it works out for them.We had our second

Design must be in the air

Monday, 5 February 2007 12:54 P GMT-05
When we had a disposable income, we worked with a terrific interior designer on several rooms of our house. The first room completed was our living room, which remains my favorite room in the house. It's fairly casual even though it s

Anti-Climactic?

Thursday, 1 February 2007 2:58 P GMT-05
Was anyone else underwhelmed by the season finale of Top Chef? While I'm thrilled that Marcel aka Wolfboy didn't win, I think I was so concerned that he might that it ruined the enjoyment of the show for me. And Ilan...well, while watch
