What was begun as an online journal of the books I read evolved...or maybe it devolved...to also feature behind the scenes goings-on at All About Romance from my perspective (mostly based on my personal feelings - okay, it's a personal pity party); topics I've gone over ad nauseum in commentary at AAR, including the nature of reviews and online behavior; and my non-cyber life (including family and items in pop culture that capture my interest, which is just about everything).

Please do not violate my trust. I restricted certain AAR-related and personal entries for a reason...to keep them as private as possible. Now that my blog is read-only, to access restricted entries you must already have a password; if you do, hold onto it so that you can continue to read restricted entries.

This blog is not part of All About Romance. I ask that you keep comments or questions regarding restricted blog content off of AAR.

Below you'll find the blogs I visit, broken out in my own odd little system of categories.

LLB helps launch new B&N endeavor

posted Tuesday, 4 March 2008

Yesterday Barnes & Noble, Inc., the world’s largest bookseller, announced the launch of Barnes & Noble Studio, a new multimedia destination on Barnes & Noble.com. Among those features debuting on the site was the very first Book Obsessed, starring...me.

I was incredibly surprised when I saw myself from the actual B&N home page yesterday, but prefer to give the link directly to the "Obsessed" page because that's where they appropriately refer to me as "a romance fan who shares the love at allaboutromance.com." It was kind of a kick to google myself yesterday and discover my name in the press release and associated articles at Yahoo and USA Today, among others.

For those who'd like to see the video, here it is. As I told my husband, I wish the entire interview had been shot from the front, where my middle-aged jawline and double chin don't show so badly, but he told me to cut myself a break. Which is why I'm not going to hide and pretend I never did this. <g>

Click here for the "Obsessed" page at B&N online, where you'll also find a link to the message board B&N set up for the feature (you'll have to sign up, as I did, if you want to add your own comment).

For those who read my article on AAR about this experience, it's hard to imagine they cut ten hours of filming and set-ups into this just-under five minute video, but my friends and family who have seen it tell me I met my goal of representing romance well. Other than how I look, I'm pretty happy with it myself.

You definitely need to cut yourself a break! You look terrific, you sound so cool and composed and intelligent...what more could you ask for?! And I'm in *awe* of your bookshelves......

Thanks, Kristina. I tried to be as composed as I could, but since I've never done anything like this, I worried I might start saying "um" and "you know" every two seconds. ;)

I love my bookshelves too, and never thought I'd fill 'em up! It's too bad that The Container Store no longer carries this particular line in their stores...although we were able to fill in some additional shelves when we re-organized my study this summer, my guess is that the entire line will no longer be available at some point. What frustrates me about it is that they bought the line from the Swedish company that makes it in order to sell solely at their stores, and now they're doing away with it. Grrr.

Wendy -

My husband will be thrilled to know that you also love the bookshelves. Most were set up in my study about ten years ago, but this summer, when we dis-assembled our den bookshelves, most ended up in my study according to a plan only my husband could have envisioned.

Alyssa -

Thanks...it really was a once-in-a-lifetime thing and I'm glad for my five minutes of fame.

Laurie - That was excellent. You are a great advocate for the genre, and you came across beautifully!

Thanks Alison...I hope maybe you and some others will link to it. It can't hurt to see a positive portrayal of a reader or the genre.

That was a great interview! I loved everything about it except the music track, which was a bit schmaltzy IMHO. I found myself peering at your collection to see if my favorites were there (Barbara Samuel! Lisa Valdez!). Congrats on being taken seriously. It benefits us all. :)

A job wel done! Enjoyed the video. You looked very composed and spoke for so many of us. I especially enjoyed your comment about not caring about what others think about what you read. Congratulations of becoming a "star"!

Shayera - Thanks for the nice feedback. I'm getting a swelled head (even more so than usual) over everybody who says the interview is good). ;)

Kristie Jenner - I did a fair amount of stumbling around during the interview, but they did a great job editing. In real life sometimes I can't find the most simple words to say!

Gina - See, I never even noticed the sound track...I've been so caught up in hearing how my voice sounds. I have a very low voice and dread hearing myself on tape, but this was better than I'd expected. Samuel and Valdez are in the "tbr" part of my library.

Vicki - Thanks!
